"If you’re taking the 50-gram glucose load test, the ADA suggests that this is a non-fasting test. You will be asked to consume a 50-gram glucose beverage (within 5 minutes) 1-hour prior to a plasma blood glucose draw.  This will be performed at a laboratory or at your OBGYN’s office.  If the plasma glucose value exceeds a specific threshold you will then be scheduled for a 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test. If you failed the 50-gram test and are required to do the 100-gram 3-hour glucose tolerance test, the ADA suggests a fasting plasma glucose measurement prior to consuming the beverage. Per your provider and laboratory instruction, subsequent glucose measurements will be taken at the 1-hour, 2-hour, and 3-hour mark."
